Time for a Rock ‘n’ Roll Rundown here at ZAGSBLOG. It’s back by popular demand (mostly from Mike Byrnes, head coach at Winchendon Prep) ….

**Looks like Led Zeppelin and its fans must continue to wait on Robert Plant before any full-fledged tour takes place. Plant is still out on the road with Alison Kraus promoting their “Raising Sand” album, which has sold more than 100,000 copies in Canada. The tour was extended until Oct. 5, meaning no Zep dates until at least then, and Plant doesn’t sound all that fired up about it.

“Zzzzzzzzzzz,” Plant said when the topic was raised, dropping his chin to his chest and pretending to fall asleep at a press conference on Toronto’s waterfront.

All of which begs the question: Is Alison Kraus the Yoko Ono of Led Zeppelin?

North Carolina commit Travis Wear tallied 15 points and 7 rebounds and UConn-bound point guard Kemba Walker of Rice added 12 points and 5 assists as the USA U18 National team downed Venezuela, 82-73, in the 2008 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Formosa Argentina.

Ryan Kelly of Ravenscroft High in Raleigh, N.C. added 12 points and 10 boards for the USA, and St. Anthony senior Dominic Cheek had just 2 points that came off a steal and a dunk. Kansas freshman Travis Releford and Duke commit Mason Plumlee added 8 points apiece.

Rutgers commit Greg Echenique of St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark tallied 11 points on 4-of-12 shooting to go with 9 rebounds and 4 blocks for Venezuela.

PATERSON, N.J. – The Playaz Gold  and New Heights 2011 each took home championships Monday from the Joe Brown Memorial Tournament at Paterson Catholic.

Senior guard Karon Abraham of Paterson Eastside had 18 points and 6 assists and senior forward David Laury of the Nia School added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Playaz, who topped New Heights 2010, 64-59. Abraham made all four free throw attempts in the final 28 seconds. The Playaz, coached by Jerome Smart, were competing without starters: Dominic Cheek (USA U18 team) and Georgia Tech-bound Brian Oliver (ankle).

Devon Collier, a junior forward at St. Anthony, had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Harold McBride of St. Raymond had 13 for New Heights 2010, who were playing up a year.

Still, New Heights won a title when its 2011 team topped  New Jersey Team Elite, 43-38, behind 20 points from Jermaine Sanders, a 6-4 sophomore at Rice.

Tyrone Johnson, a rising sophomore at Plainfield High, tallied 14 for Team New Jersey Elite.

Dante Taylor has committed to Pittsburgh, according to Dave Telep of Scout.com.

The 6-foot-9 Taylor, a Greenburgh, N.Y. native now at  Fort Washington (Md.) National Christian, made the commitment at the Triple S Harley Davidson Shootout at West Virginia.

He chose Pitt over West Virginia, Kansas, Memphis, Syracuse and Villanova.

“Pitt was there from the beginning when I didn’t have a big name,” Taylor, who averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds last year, told Scout.com.

PHILADELPHIA – His career at St. Raymond’s in the Bronx now behind him, Kevin Parrom is looking forward to a new lease on life.

The 6-foot-6 Parrom, the No. 18 small forward in the Class of 2009, will begin his new career this fall at South Kent (Conn.) under head coach Kelvin Jefferson.

“Coach Kelvin’s a great guy,” Parrom said last week at the Reebok All-American Camp, where he was chosen to the Upperclass All-Star Game. “I’m looking forward to September, it should be a good experience. A new start, a new beginning. I just have to start all over at South Kent in September.”

Parrom parted ways with St. Ray’s after a much-publicized conflict with St. Ray’s head coach Oliver Antigua. The school has since announced that Antigua would return, but Parrom would not.

Jayvaughn Pinkston certainly helped his stock at the Reebok All-American Camp in Philly last week.

The 6-5 junior combo forward from Bishop Loughlin (N.Y.) scored a team-high 12 points to lead Finish to a 75-66 victory in the Underclassmen All-Star Game, but his teammate Ashton Pankey was name Co-MVP.

St. John’s, Rutgers, Villanova and Xavier have all offered, according to New Heights director Kimani Young.

“I want to go away for school,” Pinkston said. That may rule out the locals.
