ShoreShots Win Harley Davidson; Gaston MVP

Fordham’s 2009 recruiting class is looking better and better.

Chris Gaston, a 6-7, 205-pound  forward from St. Anthony in Jersey City who’s committed to Fordham for 2009, was named MVP of the Triple S Harley Davidson Shootout at West Virginia after leading the New Jersey ShoreShots to a 71-60 victory over the King James Shooting Stars in Wednesday’s final. Gaston, who will prep next year at New Hampton (N.H.), put up 21 points and 12 boards in the title game.

That followed 31 points and 14 rebounds against Pitt-bound big man Dante Taylor of National Christian in the quarterfinals and 27 points against onetime Georgetown commit Chris Braswell (now headed to Hargrave Military) and Triple Threat in the semis.

Meantime, Fordham-bound senior wing Lance Brown of Paterson Catholic had 14 points in the quarters and 18 in the semis.

“Chris was tremendous,” ShoreShots Rob Engemann said by phone. “He got better as the weekend went along. He’s a real steal for Fordham. Lance Brown, everybody slept on him. His skill set is getting better and better every time he steps on the floor.”

  • Thanks for the updates on Chris and Lance, as well as the other Fordham recruiting notes you pass along on the site. There’s not a lot of information out there on Gaston but he sounds like a very solid player and a good early pickup. As you’ve mentioned, Jio and Coach Grasso are helping us bring in some very good players and I expect that to continue with all the young talent and St. Anthony’s and PC.
