Lawrence Has Separated Shoulder

Omari Lawrence has a separated shoulder and is out of action until at least Oct. 1.

A 6-4, 185-pound shooting guard, Lawrence recently announced his transfer from St. Raymond’s in the Bronx to South Kent (Conn.), where he will team with former St. Ray’s teammate Kevin Parrom and former Cardinal McCarrick standout Mike Burwell.

“He’s probably had it for awhile, but he didn’t let anybody know,” said Gary Charles, Lawrence’s coach with the New York Panthers. “Lately we could tell something was wrong so we told him he had to go get it checked out. And basically the doctor said it looked like it was healing, but it got reinjured at the NBA Camp. That’s the last place he was at.

“Then we got a second opinion, so he’s having surgery next week.”

In other St. Ray’s news, Dan Martin of the New York Post reports that coach Oliver Antigua will remain at the school despite his recent altercation with Parrom. Parrom, who is here in Philly at the Reebok All-American Camp, announced his transfer after the incident, and Lawrence followed thereafter.

Parrom lists Marquette, Clemson and South Carolina as the schools recruiting him the hardest.
