Pitt-Memphis at MSG?

I interviewed Pitt guard Levance Fields last week at the Steve Nash Nike Skills Academy for an upcoming story, and the Brooklyn native said Big East tournament champion Pitt may play national runner-up Memphis this season.

“They’re trying to work a game against Memphis in the Garden, like we played Duke last year,” he said. “So hopefully that works out.”

“Pitt-Memphis at MSG is a definite possibility and we would love to see it happen, but we are not even close to signing a contract,” a Pitt source said. “We will definitely play at MSG against a TBA opponent.”

Memphis assistant Orlando Antigua departed the Pitt staff during the offseason to coach under John Calipari at Memphis.

Speaking of Memphis, we hear the Tigers are working very hard on elite 2009 players Xavier Henry, John Wall, Rashanti Harris (who is now at The Patterson School in N.C.) and Derrick Favors. Memphis assistant Josh Pastner has slipped right into his new role and is all over Favors. We also hear former Indiana player Armon Bassett will end up at UAB. Bassett was dismissed from IU after his sophomore season.
