Renardo Sidney and Lance Stephenson headline the list of grassroots basketball talent that will descend this weekend on New York City for the Rumble in the Bronx.
Organized by Jim Hart, the event runs Friday through Sunday at Fordham University and other venues around the city.
Sidney plays for the LA Dream Team, while Stephenson has left his old outfit, the Juice All-Stars, to play for Raising Champions, a team coached by his father.
Stephenson has a busy summer that also includes a trip to the Steve Nash Nike Skills Academy in Union, N.J. in late June and tryouts for the U.S. U18 team that will travel to Formosa, Argentina next month.
Numerous other stars from New York and New Jersey are also slated to play this weekend, including Dominic Cheek, Kevin Parrom, Omari Lawrence, Durand Scott and Sherrod Wright.
**Also this weekend, Villanova is hosting a team camp with many top teams from Pennsylvania as well as Kevin Boyle’s St. Patrick of Elizabeth team. St. Patrick has as many as a dozen future Division I players, including North Carolina-bound G Dexter Strickland, sophomore F Marcus Kennedy, who has an offer from Xavier, and sophomore G Kyrie Irving, who holds an offer from Rutgers.
**In college news, Mike Anthony of the Hartford Courant reports that Nate Miles has qualified for the Huskies, putting them at 14 scholarships, one over the limit and potentially spelling the end of Stanley Robinson’s career in Storrs. UConn has five incoming recruits, with Rice guard Kemba Walker, Ater Majok, Charles Okwandu and Scottie Haralson joining Miles.
**Also Doneal Mack, a former 4-star 2006 recruit who initially signed with Florida but did not get through admissions at Florida is transferring out of Memphis.
