The Paterson Catholic boys and girls basketball teams may have to wait until late summer to find out if they will gain independence for two years from the Bergen-Passaic Scholastic League.

Cougars athletic director Jim Slezak presented two proposals to the B-PSL’s athletic directors at Wednesday’s league meeting in Paterson — one for the boys and one for the girls — instead of one proposal, said Marty Bosland, executive director of the B-PSL. No vote took place at the meeting because Paterson Catholic should have presented one unified proposal, Bosland said.

“They were directed to bring one proposal to the league,” he said. “When they sent it out [to athletic directors May 14] they had two proposals, an ‘A’ and a ‘B.’ These two proposals were never discussed.”
