St. Anthony Big Men Drawing Interest

Devoncollier5_27150Two names to keep an eye on the coming years are sophomores Devon Collier and Ashton Pankey, the two newest members of Bob Hurley’s storied St. Anthony program.

The 6-foot-7, 212-pound Collier (left) was named to the 16-U All-Tournament Team at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions.

He has drawn interest from Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Wake Forest and Virginia, according to New Heights coach Jeff Rivera. Fordham has offered both Collier and Pankey as well as Bishop Loughlin wing Jayvaughn Pinkston.

“He has drawn major, major interest,” Rivera said last month when Collier transferred from All Hallows. “He’s a high-major Division I player. He can be one of Coach Hurley’s better players that will come through his program after it’s all said and done. I believe he can be that good if he develops the right work ethic under Coach Hurley.

“Devon can hurt you in a number of ways. He can post you up. He can put it on the floor and take it to the basket. He can put in offensive rebounds. He needs a little work extending his jump shot. but if he does that, Oh my God, scary, scary good.”

As for the 6-8 Pankey, who transferred from Archbishop Molloy, Rivera said all of the aforementioned schools were also involved, except Wake Forest.

Rivera said Collier and Pankey were invited to the Reebok All-American Camp in Philly July 6-10, but will attend the adidas Big 5ive tournament in Cincinnati instead.
