Sutton to Announce Tuesday

Maurice_suttonMaurice Sutton, a 6-11, 210-pound forward from Largo (Md.) High School, is expected to announce his college choice during a press conference Tuesday at his school.

Sutton will decide between Indiana, Seton Hall and Villanova, according to Largo head coach Lewis Howard.

“He’s down to three,” Howard said Monday by phone. “We’re going to know something later tonight or early in the morning.”

The NCAA late signing period ends Wednesday.

Sutton visited Villanova last week and Indiana last weekend.

“Villanova went great,” Howard said. “He was just there for one day. He loved Indiana. Indiana was great, too.”

Sutton told Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier-Journal that he had a “great time” in Indiana while playing for the Indiana Elite LNO team that includes Evan Gordon, brother of former IU star Eric Gordon

“It’s nice to be here,” he said. “It’s a nice little college town. You see what you get. I love this area and the fans and I love coach (Tom) Crean. As soon as you walk into (Assembly Hall), those five banners say it all.”

Sutton, originally from Newark, is ranked No. 30 among centers in the Class of 2008 and averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds and 9 blocks per game while leading Largo to the state 3A championship. In one game earlier this year against Crossland, Sutton had 35 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks.
