Taylor King to Villanova

Taylor_kingFormer Duke forward Taylor King has committed to Villanova, according to ESPN.com

The 6-foot-6 King had planned to visit USC and Gonzaga but pledged to the Wildcats after a weekend visit to campus. He will become the third McDonald’s All-American on the Villanova roster.

“It just couldn’t be a better fit for me,” King told ESPN.com. “It wasn’t about getting it over with. I wanted it. This gives me the best opportunity to start right away.”

A native of Huntington Beach, Calif., King played in all of Duke’s 34 games, averaging 5.5 points and 2.0 rebounds while posting two 20-point games, including 27 points against Eastern Kentucky. He converted 38 percent of his 3-point attempts.

King won’t be eligible until the 2009-10 season, but should provide a nice shooting complement to former St. Patrick of Elizabeth star Corey Fisher, a pure point guard. Former St. Benedict’s standout Corey Stokes emerged as Villanova’s top outside shooter during the Big East tournament.

“I asked blunt questions, but I wanted everything they offered,” King said. “They laid down their game plan for me and I couldn’t resist.”
