Maryland High on Epps

IsaiaheppsPlainfield coach Pete Vasil received a phone call from Maryland assisstant Chuck Driesell expressing interest in explosive sophomore point guard Isaiah Epps.

“That’s the guy they’re focusing on for the Class of 2010, a combo guard who can score,” Vasil said. “He’s certainly capable of playing there. He reminds me of a Juan Dixon-type.”

A first-team All-Union County selection, the 6-foot-2 Epps averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 assists and 2.9 steals last season.

Maryland will come in to watch Epps work out later this spring, while Georgetown is coming in to watch freshman guard Tyrone Johnson, Epps’ talented backcourt mate.

“Isaiah said (Maryland) would be in his top five,” Vasil said. “I look at it as high interest.”

Epps holds offers from Rutgers and Seton Hall, and St. Joe’s has also expressed interest, Vasil said.
