Chris Turner Speaks

Christurner3_30200I finally caught up with Chris Turner, the 6-foot-5, 185-pound shooting guard from Humble (Texas) Christian Life Center, to get his thoughts on his recruiting process.

Turner recently de-committed from Oregon State after John Jay was fired mid-season. He averaged 26 points this past season at Humble and is still waiting on an SAT score.

“I got a couple ideas on where I want to go to school, East Carolina, Seton Hall, Wake Forest, Virginia, Baylor, Maryland,” he said. Turner dropped Kentucky from his list despite a recent visit to the school.

His high school coach, Carlos Wilson, previously told me Turner was down to East Carolina, Seton Hall and Wake Forest, which he will visit “in a couple weeks.” The late signing period runs April 16-May 21.

“As far as East Carolina and Seton Hall, I’m talking it over with my parents and making sure that I make the right decision and don’t rush into it this time,” Turner said.

Turner visited Seton Hall for Midnight Madness and there were rumors that he committed at that time. He did not, but he does like Seton Hall.

“They’re in the Big East,” he said. “Coach (Bobby) Gonzalez is a great coach. It’s a pretty good environment because it’s a metropolitan area. I’m pretty cool with the guys on the team. I know Jeremy (Hazell), I know Eugene (Harvey). (Gonzalez) wants me to come in and play right away and be an impact freshman.”

And what will Turner bring to his college program?

“I’m going to be an energetic type of guy that makes his teammates play well,” he said. “I can shoot the ball real well. I can defend a little bit on the perimeter. I’m a winner.”
