Evans Down to 4 Schools

Tyrekeville799301Tyreke Evans of American Christian is at the McDonald’s All-American Game in Milwaukee and told Jerry Meyer of Rivals that he is down to four schools: UConn, Memphis, Texas and Villanova. Evans plans to announce his decision during a press conference April 16. In the meantime, he’ll keep an eye on the NCAA tournament. Memphis, Texas and Villanova are still alive.

“I want to wait so I can look at how the coaches coach during the tournament,” Evans said at the McDonald’s practices. “I want to see if they change their game plan or stick to what they have been doing all season.”

Evans, who averaged 29 points and eight assists, said he will study the guard play in the tournament.

“I want to go to a school where there is a lot of guard play and where I can be in a situation to improve at things I’m not used to doing,” he said. “I want to mix it up and have the ball and also work off a lot of screens. I’ve been watching USC games, and I see O.J. (Mayo) come off a lot of screens away from the ball. I’ve never really done that because I’ve always had the ball in my hands.”

Evans added that he will make one more visit to Villanova when he gets home.

“I took my last visit to Memphis, but when I go home, Villanova wants me to come up there and visit,” he said. “So I’ll do that when I get home.”

The Philly Inquirer ran a listing of odds on which school Evans will pick, saying Memphis (6-1) was the favorite. Texas was 13-1 and Louisville, now out of the running, was 20-1.
